Christianity at Croscombe

Let Your Light Shine
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16

At Croscombe Church of England Primary School, our Christian vision is at the heart of everything we do. We believe every person is uniquely created and deeply valued by God. Every child, every member of staff and every family is an important part of our school community. Inspired by Jesus’ words to “Let your light shine”, we seek to nurture a school where everyone is encouraged to discover who they are, develop their unique gifts and use them to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Our vision shapes our relationships, our learning, our worship and the way we care for one another each day.

Our Christian Foundation

At Croscombe, we believe every person is uniquely created and deeply valued by God. Inspired by Jesus’ words to “Let your light shine”, we nurture a community where:

Children know they matter

Every member of our community is welcomed, valued and loved. We want every child to feel safe, included and confident to be themselves.

Children are free to explore and discover

We encourage curiosity, creativity and awe. Children are inspired to ask questions, deepen their understanding and delight in learning about God’s world.

The community helps everyone to flourish

We encourage children to use their gifts wisely, care for one another and take responsibility for making our school and wider community a better place.

Our Values

Our values help us to live out our Christian vision every day.

Be Kind – We treat everyone with dignity, compassion and respect.

Be Curious – We ask questions, persevere and delight in learning.

Be Courageous – We do what is right, even when it is difficult.

Be Responsible – We care for ourselves, others and God’s world. We take responsibility for our actions.

Living Our Vision

Our Christian vision is woven through every aspect of school life.

It shapes our curriculum, our relationships, our behaviour and our decision-making. Children are encouraged to recognise their own unique gifts, celebrate the gifts of others and understand how they can use those gifts to serve their community.

Whether we are learning in the classroom, exploring outdoors, worshipping together or supporting one another through challenges, we want every child to know that they matter, that they can flourish and that they have the opportunity to let their light shine.

Collective Worship

Collective Worship is central to life at Croscombe.

Each week we gather together to reflect, pray, sing, celebrate and explore Christian teaching. Worship provides opportunities for children to wonder, ask questions and reflect on how faith can help us to live well together.

Our worship follows the Christian calendar and explores biblical stories and Christian values that are meaningful and relevant to children’s lives.

Throughout the week we enjoy:

  • Whole-school Collective Worship
  • Class-based worship and reflection
  • Singing worship
  • Celebration Worship, where we recognise children’s achievements and celebrate the many ways they have let their light shine

We value our close partnership with St Mary the Virgin Church and enjoy welcoming clergy and visitors into school, as well as worshipping together in church throughout the year.
